One thing Liam Neeson is going to do in a movie is to learn the truth and fight for his family…..Well, that’s two things but you get the idea! Neeson is still in the business of helping others in BLACKLIGHT, another action-packed film where he portrays Travis Block, a freelance government “fixer” whose many jobs include extracting FBI agents out of deep undercover situations. Now before you take a peek at this movie, it is not an official part of the TAKEN series however, because of the roles Neeson frequently plays it reads as TAKEN through and through.
Block is looking to retire so that he can be close to his granddaughter who adores him and build back the trust he’s lost with his daughter, Amanda while battling OCD and working such a dangerous job. All of this goes out of the window when Sophia Flores, a local anti-government politician, is run down in the middle of the street and her boyfriend, undercover agent Dusty Crane, an old friend of Block, goes rogue.
LET me just take a little detour and tell you I SCREAMED the loudest OH MY GAWD when Sophia’s uber driver says, “Sorry about that I hope it won’t affect my rate,” and then she gets run over in the middle of the street! This was well within the first 5 minutes of the movie and I was like ooooh this movie is finna be good.
Back to our regularly scheduled review:
A local reporter, Mira, finds the politician’s death suspicious and as she gets a lead from Crane about the truth about the FBI’s secret program Block is ordered to capture and turn in Crane. In the midst of trying to get Dusty in custody and warn Mira to abandon her story, Dusty is murdered by FBI agents, and Block is confronted with the fact that he might actually be working for the bad guy.
“How many more need to die before you stop looking the other way…?”
Mira
When Block turns on his old FBI friend and employer, Gabriel Robinson, his family is taken (aht aht I TOLD YOU) and he now has to fight to find them and expose the corrupt FBI, while also trying to stay alive himself.
What I will say is that while the movie isn’t anything new under the sun I still enjoyed watching Neeson do what he does best and at 69 – I wouldn’t want anything else for him.
You can see BLACKLIGHT in theaters Friday, February 11th! Get your tickets here!
