June (Storm Reid) is an average teenager. Rebellious, uninterested in her mom Grace (Nia Long) and her rules, thinks life is unfair – the works. She is obsessed with the murder mystery world, which comes in handy when her mom goes missing while on vacation in Colombia with her new boyfriend Kevin (Ken Leung). Using her grade B+ technology skills she is able to hack into a few different apps and get the real tea on what her mom and Kevin have been up to. She uncovers A LOT of her own secrets – but mainly discovers that life the way she remembers it has been built on a HUGE lie.
Best
I think we can all agree that the two biggest plot twists of the movie are when we realized that the mom was not on the plane traveling to Colombia and that the daddy was still alive. I mean audible gasps both times. Perfect plot twists, excellent delivery. I honestly didn’t see either of those scenarios coming. I for sure thought the boyfriend kidnapped and murdered Grace or that the mom abandoned June and she spent her whole life looking for her or something!
Worst
I absolutely hated the best friends in this movie (characters not the actresses yawl). They were honestly the most unrealistic and unreliable characters and they did not have enough urgency to help as they should have. Especially Grace’s best friend who knew about everything going on!!! Why didn’t she tell June the truth right when her mom went missing? How did she let herself get killed? Terrible all around.
Weirdest
I think at some point Grace should have pushed harder to come clean with June about being in witness protection before going on that trip. I know she tried to have a conversation with her beforehand but I don’t think I would have allowed her not answering/returning my phone calls prevent me from sitting her down and having that conversation. It should have been well before the trip was planned so that she could work through those emotions with her. ALSO, if she was in witness protection, I feel like Grace’s agent should have done a MUCH better job vetting Kevin.
Grace: Siri, please call Junebug.
Missing
June: Mom, you’re already on the the phone. This is Facetime.
Best Red Carpet Look
This is such a 19-year-old pose (and a 28-year-old pose too cause I JUST took a picture like it)! Miss Stormi graced the carpet in a feather-adorned Balmain gown, a lil open-toe heel situation, minimal jewelry, and a fresh, natural beat.

I’d give this movie a 4.5/5. I used to think that scenarios like these were unrealistic, but we’ve seen some crazier plots and themes play out in real life. I think that there were some moments that remind you that you are watching a movie and could have been a little more realistic. However, in its entirety, the movie was well-developed, had a great cast, amazing plot twists, funny jokes, and a nice happy ending.
