The Mitchell’s vs Machines is an old classic theme with a modern twist. Soon to be college student/ weird nerdy (BUT SUPER CONFIDENT) girl ready to start a new life, Katie Mitchell and her father Rick are at odds about her interest. Rick has always seen Katie as an unfocused child who needs to put the technology down and focus on a real career (WHOSE HEARD THAT BEFORE AM I RIGHT).
The REAL problem is that his daughter is a digital creative and he’s stuck in his old ways. He doesn’t know how to use technology and has no intention of learning. After a big blow up at a family dinner, Rick decides to pack up the family and drive Katie to college. This just so happens to be the day that technology takes over the world and the Mitchell’s have to team up and stop the impending migration of humanity to outer space.
I won’t spoil the end of the movie for you as I rank this on a must see level, if you’ve ever felt invalidated in your dreams, if you’ve ever had family tension, if you’ve ever had to overcome anything in life! This movie is a great reminder that you are worthy and capable of doing anything that you dream of or felt wasn’t attainable to you.
Outside of the plot the actual animation in this movie is literally out of this world and for that alone it’s worth watching. ALSOOOOO there is a blast from the past FURBY and mannnnny manny other references drop em in the comments if you pick up on them!
My takeaways
- Be confident in yourself, your dreams, your goals – no matter who (FAMILY INCLUDED) doesn’t believe it’s worth it.
- You can do unimaginable things simply because you are you.
